I'm going to put decals of the Isreal, Palestine, and American flags on my car and watch people's heads explode. PEOPLE ARE NOT THEIR GOVERNMENTS.

I have a dual USA and Israeli citizenship through my Father's family ss my paternal grandparents were both Jewish Halocaust survivors from Germany, and they lived in Israel for the last 15 years of their lives. My Father made his birthright trip in the summer of 1992 to help his parents move there and reconnect with family that had immigrated there in the early 1970s. My Mother has asked my sister and I not to visit Israel as long as the risk of daily violence is so high. I also have a college friend who moved to Israel about a decade ago to work for an NGO that works to get humanitarian aid to displaced Palestinian refugees. I keep in touch with my friend and family members on a regular basis, and this attack by Hamas has left me emotional and angry and everything in between. My Grandparents were activists for a two state solution for the Palestinians. They deeply disliked the Zionist policies of Israel's government, and believed they were no different from the Nazi Regime's policies towards the Jews. Hamas is a terrible actor in the region. They don't care about Gaza, and they don't care about Palestinians. They instigated these attacks and war not with the liberation of Gaza in mind, but with the full fledged knowledge that consequences of their actions would only bring more terror and death to Gaza. It's deeply sickening to me. This tit-for-tat style of warfare that BOTH sides willingly participate in is never ending, and it only builds more obstacles for peaceful solutions.

P.S. If I see another American leftist cheerfully condoning these attacks, I might finally lose my fucking mind.

I have found some of the most well balanced and honest coverage of this war is happening through The New York Times and Reuters. These two agencies have boots on the ground journalists who are fleshing out stories and talking to a wide range of individuals and authorities to craft their reporting. Really well done stuff.
