A Bail Bondsmen on Bail Disparities and Inner City Crime: An Eye-Opening Conversation

Months ago I interviewed the Bail Project, which helps economically disadvantaged people avoid long jail stays while awaiting trial. Ken Good, Texas bail attorney and a board member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, heard the interview and wanted to respond.

He discusses the bail process, the issue of bail disparities, and how the bail industry deals with risk assessment. Good argues against the bail project's disparate treatment claim and that they are bonding out the most dangerous people who must stay in jail.

Ken W. Good graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He received a Master of Education Degree in 1986 from Tarleton State University, a part of the Texas A&M System. In 1989, he received his law degree from Texas Tech School of Law, where he was a member of the Texas Tech Law Review. Mr. Good has argued cases before the Supreme Court of Texas, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and numerous appeals courts, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Good is married and has two daughters.
